Ladle furnace refractory


LF method is specialized steel melting and refining equipment, refining, ingredients and temperature adjusting all can be carried out in LF furnace, it is most economic method to increase electric furnace productivity. What’s more, this method can combine with LD converter to replace electric furnace to produce various kinds of special steel.

The main point of LF method is slag refining. Ladle keeps reductive gases, high alkalinity slagging materials are melted by electric heating. Meanwhile, deoxydization, desulfurization and so on are done. Argon blowing stirring steel liquid and slag can accelerate reaction and enhance refining effect, at the same time, steel liquid ingredients are adjusted and steel liquid temperature is homogenized, besides, vacuum degassing can be done according to requirement.

LF furnace body part is made by ordinary steel bucket, bucket cover is equipped with 3 pcs of electrode for heating. Bucket bottom is equipped with argon blowing system for stirring steel liquid. Vacuum system can also be adopted for dehydrogenation.

LF furnace working lining mainly suffers steel liquid and slag chemical corrosion, high temperature thermal impact, steel liquid and slag washing during agitation. Slag line part and argon blowing part have fierce reaction and intense boiling, accompanied with the addition of slagging material, slag carrion and damage is even severe.

LF furnace ladle lining refractory is basically the same with VOD method and VAD method. At early stage of LF furnace application, steel ladle slag line part usually adopts magnesite dolomite rbicks as lining material, the service life of ladle is about 20 times. Later, slag line part is lined by magnesia carbon bricks, the service life of ladle lining is greatly prolonged , for example, the service life of 130t and 120t ladle are 45 times and 50~55 times, respectively. The rest parts of ladle working lining are built by unfired high alumina bricks, 120t ladle service life is 60 times.

To increase ladle lining impact face integrity and increase service life, high strength refractory castable or ramming mixture can be used to make precast blocks, which have the same thickness with ladle lining. Corundum chrome castable with 94% Al2O3 and 3% Cr2O3, is used in some LF furnaces, and the using effect is very good.
