- The Quality Of Refractory Materials
One important method to prolong blast furnace life is adopting high quality lining refractory materials. Key parts refractory products quality is gradually improved, the application ratio of micro pore carbon bricks, graphite bricks, premium silicon carbide bricks, Sialon bonded corundum bricks and high quality alumina carbon bricks is higher and higher. With the increase of blast furnace capacity, the ratio of high quality refractory materials also increases, so the service life of blast furnace is significantly prolonged. Most middle capacity and small capacity blast furnaces still use fireclay bricks and high alumina bricks, only small percent of high quality SiC products are used, so the service life of small blast furnace is relatively short.
In recent years, low price and good performance alumina carbon bricks are applied in middle and small size blast furnaces and the application effect is very good, so alumina carbon bricks will be further developed and the application will be increased.

Long life of blast furnace is key factor to reduce cost and increase productivity. The damage of furnace shaft, furnace hearth and furnace bottom greatly affects blast furnace using time and strengthening smelting degree. Especially at late period of service life, necessary inspection measures should be took to promise safe production and prolong blast furnace life, for example, cooling water temperature difference, hot current intensity, temperature curve should be timely analyzed to increase blast furnace utilization rate, reduce energy consumption, increase output and to prolong the service life.

To increase the service life of blast furnace, currently, the patching of blast furnace is more and more popular. Blast furnace lining patching methods are:
- Semi dry gunning patching furnace lining.
- In recent years, wet gunning material is also quickly developed and it can be used to patch furnace lining.
- When blast furnace wall is heated to red, holes can be drilled, so injection material can be injected into this part by injection machine, the service life of furnace lining can be prolonged for 3~6 months.
